To those who wonder how it works. The black background she added to the picture is there to hide the white spray paint layer which just adds the non transparent effect to the picture and because of she printed the picture out mirrored the front of the print has to be attached to the surface instead of sliding it with the back on.
Thank you very much for this! I painted my guitar’s headstock black and wanted to put a new label on it. Using this method I was able to do this and it looks awesome!
Would this work on every dark color like navy blue or would I have to do the background color navy blue to match? And if I have black detailing for the navy blue surface, would that be affected? i suspect it would be.
I think it's because the black box filled in the clear space, and the white spray paint went behind the colors, basically making the color images on a "white" waterslide. Because of the black box, the white spray paint didn't show where it wasn't wanted. That's what I figured in my head anyway lol, so I typed it out here so it would make sense to me lol
worked like a charm!! Just don't forget to mirror the text. it needs to be flipped horizontally so it shows up the right way! I was struggleing to put a decal on a guitar headstock I was redoing. I painted it black and the decal didn't show up until I did this, ☺
Is it possible to add a white waterslide decal (printed on white waterslide paper) onto a vinyl wrapped tumbler? I tried this morning but the wateslide is not adhering to the vinyl (I wrapped the tumbler in a woodgrain vinyl). Is there something I need to do further than just trying to add it onto the vinyl ?
Ok odd question but do you think this would work with spray paint instead? Like if I didn't want to use a that black ink. Could we seal them then do a later of black spray paint over the white or vis versa?
What a fantastic idea! I have used the white vinegar to trick, bbut this will save me so much time and also allow me to do intricate waterslide designs on dark cups!
Help me understand why you seal the waterslide if that is the side going towards the tumbler. I always have the waterslide print right side up so I seal for sure.
For this method does it work on black and white decals if so how do I go about it if I didn’t put the black square on the back or does it just work for color decals…TIA
If you didn’t spray it white, it would be just applying clear waterslide on a black tumbler so the colored music notes wouldn’t show up on the black tumbler. By spraying white you are essentially making your clear waterslide sheet into a white waterslide sheet by giving it a base coat behind the image.
@@jessicasexton7327 I had to read this twice, and I just got it. It's the white side she's sliding away, leaving the clear. Do you happen to know how to do these steps in Silhouette studio?
What is the setting you use on your computer or phone to print clear or white water slide. Every time I print a picture on ether water slide the picture does not come out right. Please help. I have wasted soooo much water slide paper. I've even tried to print on printable vinyl and still no luck.
I'll help explain well I'll try. When she printed it the music notes doesn't have black behind them like the rest of the empty space. The white spray paint is what is making the music notes show up...they have to have a white background to show...the black ink keeps the white from showing on the black parts though. So the black she printed is covering up the white sprain paint except where the notes are the white is what is making those show. I really hope this helps haha If you didn't have the black ink you'd have music notes with white all around them after she sprayed it.
I'll add if you was doing it on black glitter this wouldn't work you'd see the whole outline. Whatever color tumbler it is that's the color you need to print around the words for this to work. Black is about the only one I'd really do this method with honestly.
Ok, so you mirror your image and then spray paint over the top with the white, then lay it down and the white spray pint is still face up? Because the back of my waterslide is not sticky. If that makes sense?
Would this hack work for or is there another hack for - clear decals that cannot print white. So it's clear background decal - and if there are "white" details, that part is clear unless you get a decal printed on white but then you have the annoying fact that it's a fully white image and you see the borders.
@@CourtneysCustoms but what if I have white paper ( I bought both clear & white) should I skip the white Flat part? & just turn my background shape black?

🤔will this work on any dark color cup or does it have to be black? I recently tried doing water slide on a dark purple and the image didn’t pop like i wanted. It disappeared.
So I'm totally new to the waterslides trying to make sense of this. I do have a question, what in the world is the purpose of the white paint if your cup is black and you put a black background behind the image? I'm so confused.

Thanks for the hack I'm going to try it but I just curious will this work for other colors such as blue, red, or gold? Also if it do, do you add the same color square of the cup to get the same results? Thanks in advance for your time and help
Do you need to mirror the image? I have a black tumbler and to use this method you placed it image face down that is why I am wondering if it needs to be mirrored.
This may be a stupid question, but could you just spray paint the back black instead of white? I am confused about the purpose of the white spray paint.
Never a stupid question !! If you painted it black then it wouldn’t show up. So painting it white gives it a bright background so it’ll stand out against the black cup
I made a coffee mug using alcohol ink and epoxy that has different colors of purple on it and it's pretty dark but I want to add clear waterslide to it what is the best way to make the picture stand out on it
I tried your approach but when I put it on you could see the white edge. If I hand painted it and left an outline of the WaterSlide would that help it blend better? Or do you have any suggestions?
I am set up to try sublimation/printing/waterside but I have not tried either yet 😬 so please educate me as to the final process of the waterside application. What do you seal it with? Thank youuu
My question is if I’m doing a white unicorn with lettering I’m doing a galaxy unicorn I don’t want my unicorn to be black from the cup so this process would work the same way correct? And do you put the paper image face down or face up?
That is pretty cool. Question: with this technique does the difference of the black ink printed on the waterslide verses the black of the cup show an edge of the decal where you cut?
If the square color and paint color on the cup are not exact matches will it be obvious? I tried this before with black spray painted cup and black square on white waterside. Once I got it on the cup the blacks didn't match.
Hi there! Ok, I have two questions. Did you "mirror" the image for this? I am trying to understand how the white made the images show up without seeing the actual white paint. I am going to use this method on words to put on a dark tumbler. Also, if I am using a sealer and I want to epoxy over it after, is that ok to do without the waterslide outline showing through. Thank you!
Could I use this hack on glass? I want to put waterslide decals on a French press and I want the words/design to show when it is filled with coffee and without.
I don't understand why you needed to print a black background. The background did not come off with the decal, just the printed film decal. Also why did you paint it white on the back? Thanks
The white paint gives the clear water slide a bright background to stand out against the black cup
I was wondering what the white was for I've been researching the waterslide decals and just seen this one lol
